Brave Rewards have been updated for Desktop Version: 10 ads per hour

Brave browser, up until now, only allowed up to 5 maximum ads per hour to be displayed to the user who have opted to receive ads in Brave browser. But now it has an extra option of displaying 10 ads per hour. If you don't know already, Brave Browser is privacy centered, faster and secure browser which has been started by Brendan Eich. He is an American programmer who has created JavaScript and is co-founder of Mozilla.

What is Brave Reward?

It is a program started to reward the users for viewing ads solely on their choice. For this purpose, Eich co - created a cryptocurrency token known as Basic Attention Token (BAT) which serves as a reward given to the users who opt for viewing privacy respecting ads on Brave browser. These ads do not appear in the web pages browsed by user rather they appear as a push notification on their PCs or phones.

Ads per hour: what does it mean?

For the people who are already using Brave browser knows that it does not mean, Brave will display 10 ads in an hour. Brave uses an algorithm that somehow measures the user attention across the visiting website and it only displays the ads only if a user has generated a successful attention on that website or webpage. The rewards are added to the earning section for each ads displayed for successful attention.

Hence, the 10 ads per hour represent the maximum potential of 10 ads or whatever number of ads user has chosen, to be displayed for user attention.

In practical, the ads displayed are always less and sometimes none from the maximum number of ads set by the user.

Reason for increasing to 10 ads per hour

Two reasons that I can think of, for increasing the number of ads from 5 ads to 10 is

1. Increasing user base of Brave Browser

2. Increasing advertising customers

On giving a thought, it can be said that increasing user base and increasing advertisers are not mutually exclusive. Users are basically potential customers to advertisers.

Brave browser being privacy centered, secure and faster web browser has gained a dramatic popularity over the year. This has led to increase in its number of user base around the globe. In an announcement made on February 2 of 2021, Brave in a post mentioned that in a year, the number monthly active Brave users have been doubled from 11.6 to 25.4 million and daily active users from 3.8 to 8.6 million. Taking this into consideration, it might have attracted more advertisers and may have resulted in increase in advertising customer to brave.

Since Brave cannot display as much Ads as it wants on its own accord given the ads displayed to the user are decided by an algorithm. Hence, Brave has to increase the number of maximum ads displayed even though it remains the sole choice of the user.

Affect on individual brave reward

Since, Brave reward (BAT) depends on the Ads displayed which in turn are decided by user attention measuring algorithm. Hence, there is going to be little to no affect on the users Brave reward earning. There won't be any perceivable increase in the monthly BAT earnings.

Steps to change the setting

1. Go to brave://rewards in brave search box or just click on the brave reward icon on the right of the search box.

2. Go to Ads setting which will 3 parallel blue lines in right of Ads section

3. Choose the maximum number of 10 Ads per hour to be displayed from the given options.

Conclusion

A new concept of rewarding money to users for viewing privacy respecting Ads has increasing affect in the popularity of Brave browser. And if Brave wants to keep this pace then it should devise a method of attracting the advertisers of all kind of businesses and products. For now most of the Ads displayed on Brave involves crypto exchanges, currencies and tokens.

The number of increasing users has led to the increasing advertising customers. Which might have led to increase in Ads per hour. Even though Brave has increased the number of Ads per hour to be displayed and even if the users opt for this, there is not going to be much effect on individual user reward earning.

Brave still has a long way to go. And the users should stay tuned for the major updates in upcoming times. Recently, Brave has also launched its privacy oriented Brave search engine. But it is still in its Beta.

Note that this update has been launched for Brave desktop version. It has not yet been released for mobile phones.
