I have been watching an American sci-fi TV series named ‘Counterpart’. I think, it has been run for 2 seasons but I don’t know whether it is still running or has been cancelled. Well, I am not writing this for series review because I haven’t watched it completely. I have just watched 3 episodes of the first season.
First, let me tell you one thing. I don’t start any series right away or just by reading the theme of the series. It’s like the saying “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” And in my case, it goes to movies and series too. Well, not movies because then I have to download and watch the whole movie to decide. Instead, by deciding to watch just by the cover, what I do is, I download the first episode of the series and watch it over. And, then I decide whether I should proceed with the series or not.
Well honestly, I don’t decide, it just kind of happens, and I find myself downloading the next episode of the series.
So, let’s come to the series. The series starts with the man falling over to the window and being dead and following with arrival of police as usual. The police enter the building which seems like a hotel and searching for a man, instead, they get more bodies and a pity girl in the hold of the dead man as it seems. They also find a bag full of visas, cigars and other kinds of stuff. The two head of the police as it seems, orders the others to get out of the room. Well, in the process, after all the other police leave the building, that pity girl which was found in the building kills the other two police officers left, takes the bag and flee the scene. And, later in the episode, it is known that she is actually an assassin from a parallel world who has crossed over the joining gate illegally to kill some people who seem random in the beginning but later on part of a big conspiracy.
After, the fleeing of the girl, the scene start with an old man, named Howard Silk, playing some kind of game, ‘Checkers’ I hope (I don’t know the exact name of the game) with a young man. Later, it is found that he works for some kind of secret government agency, I think CIA (which I am guessing), as I have read in the series theme. His work which was to interact with another man at the other side of the cubicle separated by glass and ask some things already written on a paper and do the same for him, seem to be very simple and was unknown that why is he doing this work or what is the meaning of his work, even to him. He was doing this work for nearly 30 years as I remember. So, he goes to his superior to apply for a higher post which was recently been vacant but he was getting denied for the post.
Everything changes for him when he was asked to sit with another Howard Silk from the parallel world who is similar to him in everything, and then, later he was told the truth of the parallel universe that has been kept in hiding from the common public, and some assassin named ‘Baldwick’ is trying to kill his wife Emily Silk who is already in a coma in a hospital due to an accident, for nearly six weeks.
For me, this series seems to be an interesting one. Later in the series, you will find the steps taken to maintain peace and regularity between two parallel worlds. It is not clear in the first three episodes but it seem likely that all the people of the other world including the general public seems to know the existence of the parallel world, and they often travel to this world by getting visas and contacting through their embassy, setup in this world.
In the first episode, the same assassin from the beginning of the episode tries to kill the comatose Emily Silk, reason unknown but she was interrupted by the Howard Silk of the parallel word who seems to be more active and can handle the guns too well.
In the end, I think, I am going to like this series. And for this post, I think, it has already become some sort of review. But this being said, I am looking forward to watching more episodes of this series. And, to know what is the conspiracy involved and how the life of different characters turns out.
